Khalsa Heritage Memorial Complex - Chandigarh, India

This is a 75-acre museum site complex with permanent, changing and special exhibition galleries, a 400-seat auditorium, library, lecture halls, restaurant, amphitheater, administration and support spaces.
Designing an HVAC system for the 70-foot tall
structures that provided comfortable conditions and had minimum impact on
the aesthetics of the facility was a major challenge on this project. Ductwork
was run inside a double cavity wall and thrown into the space at various levels
via sidewall grilles. The system was designed using groundwater for heating
& cooling to avoid any equipment such as cooling tower, boiler stacks,
etc. on the roof. The was later abandoned due to a lack of groundwater, however
aesthetic integration of the design was maintained by locating the cooling
tower in the ground to keep it hidden.
